The history of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) dates back to the establishment of the State Bank of Ethiopia in 1942. CBE was legally established as a share company in 1963. Since then, it has been playing significant roles in the development of the country.

Proudly licensed by the National Bank of Ethiopia on December 16,1963 (NBE Registration No. LBB/001/63) as per banking business proclamation number 592/2008, we are authorized to provide full banking services across the nation.

Currently, CBE has more than 48.1 million account holders and more than 1,969 branches and service outlets. The number of Mobile and Internet Banking users has reached more than 11.6 million and 786.3 thousand respectively. Active ATM card holders has also reached more than 17.7 million and there are more than 36.2 million CBE Birr users.
