About

King Faisal Hospital Rwanda (KFHR) is a 200-bed multi-specialty quaternary referral and teaching hospital in Kigali, Rwanda, with a mandate to provide specialized healthcare in East and Central Africa. Established with the support of the Saudi Fund for Development between 1987 and 1991, KFHR has grown into a leading institution for complex and specialized medical care in the region.

For over 30 years, the hospital has pursued clinical excellence, quality, and innovation, bringing together experienced medical professionals and international expertise. Its specialized services include cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, kidney transplantation, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, medical aesthetics, and a ketamine treatment center and research, as well as digital health and surgical tele-mentorship. KFHR is COHSASA accredited, reflecting its commitment to quality and patient safety.

KFHR is expanding its capacity and advanced clinical infrastructure through Horizon 2050 to strengthen specialized healthcare and position Rwanda as a leading regional destination for complex care. This vision is supported by an integrated healthcare ecosystem comprising King Faisal Hospital Rwanda, Africa Health Sciences University, and the King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation, bringing together specialized care, advanced infrastructure, education, research, innovation, and healthcare development to build a stronger and more self-sustaining healthcare system for Rwanda and the region.

HORIZON 2050: Transforming Specialized Healthcare
KFHR is undergoing a transformational expansion through Horizon 2050, designed to significantly increase clinical capacity, introduce advanced services and technologies, reduce the need for patients to seek complex care abroad, and strengthen Rwanda's position as a regional destination for specialized healthcare. The expansion includes 400 additional beds, 90 ICU/CCU/PICU/BMT beds, 18 operating rooms, and advanced diagnostic and treatment infrastructure, including MRI, CT, PET/CT, SPECT-CT, and linear accelerators, expected to be completed in 2028.

AFRICA HEALTH SCIENCES UNIVERSITY: Knowledge That Moves Healthcare Forward
Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU) complements KFHR's clinical mission by developing the specialist health workforce needed to transform healthcare in Rwanda and across Africa. AHSU currently supports 195 students across seven academic programmes, including 120 MMed residents and 75 BSc Midwifery students, with programmes spanning specialist medical education, cardiovascular perfusion and midwifery. Its Pan-African outlook, community-based training and emphasis on research and education contribute to building the next generation of healthcare leaders.

KING FAISAL HOSPITAL RWANDA FOUNDATION: Investing in the System Behind the Care
The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation serves as the philanthropic and developmental arm of KFH, supporting the advancement of healthcare, research, education, and access to specialized medical care in Rwanda and the region. Through research, education, grant and partnership management, healthcare access and social welfare, the Foundation works to strengthen the wider healthcare ecosystem and create sustainable impact beyond the hospital.
